Over the past few weeks and months we have been featuring our New Standard team members in several question and answer posts. Read on and learn more about Jon Parker!
1. What is your background and education?
I've always been intrigued by the technical side of highly specialized fields. For me this led to a formal education in Forensic Investigation within a Criminal Justice major. My electronics background comes from years spent on the road playing guitar. From repairing amps, guitars and other gear on the road, I discovered I had an aptitude for steady hands and making repairs in tight situations.
2. What led you work at New Standard?
I had been managing a team of security officers for a national bank for about 4 years. I began to realize that I was looking for a career that I could find more satisfaction in while also allowing me to utilize my talents and passions in a broader way. I casually kept my job-seekers-ear to the ground for about a year and a half before applying to New Standard. When I met with Tim and Ben for the first time they made a great impression. I knew this was going to be a good fit for me.
3. What is your role at New Standard?
I am the Customer Support Specialist. I field calls and provide support to our clients 24/7, 365. I also spend a lot of time in the field with new barn startups, equipment installs, and updates.
4. What is your specific area of expertise?
Making sure the Nedap systems are working properly in hog barns, and our Microfan controls are producing the desired results in our turkey barns.
5. What is your favorite part of the job?
Learning about the individual needs of all of our many clients and how what we have supplied them can help them all achieve the desired results.
6. What is your least favorite part of the job?
Trying to make repairs with too many "friendly" pigs swarming around me. 😊
7. How many ribs can you eat in one sitting?
Give me the full rack, I'll give you the bones.
8. Favorite cut of pork? Way to eat turkey?
Don't make me pick between tenderloin and brisket please. 😊
Smoked turkey is hard to beat. Accompanied by mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie of course.
9. When you aren't working, what do you enjoy doing?
I play in a rock band named March in Arms. We write original music and play live quite a bit. We most recently made a music video where we converted the back of a semi trailer into a C-130 (aircraft). Check it out: https://youtu.be/Wd8e6zzNZuA
I also enjoy being a father to my 3 wonderful boys, snowboarding, and CrossFit.
10. What did you think you would be when you grew up?
A drummer. I liked to make loud noises apparently.
