It is that time of year when we are all invited to tons of parties and always expected to bring treats along. Don't get stuck in the cookies, or chips and dips rut! This chocolate covered bacon recipe is as delicious as it is easy. We promise you will be the talk of the party if you follow these easy steps!

Chocolate Covered Bacon Recipe

Ingredients:

12 slices of thick cut bacon

1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tablespoon shortening

Optional: additional toppings such as sea salt or cracked black pepper

Kitchen Tools:

12, 12 inch wooden skewers (soak well in water before using)

Raised rack in a baking pan, or foil lined baking pan

Microwave-safe bowl

Basting brush

Wax-paper lined baking sheet

Yield: 1 dozen

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 400°. Weave each of your bacon strips onto a 12-in. soaked wooden skewer. You want the bacon to be well supported by the skewer so you can easily cover it in chocolate once it is baked.

Place bacon skewers on a raised rack inside a baking pan (or on a foil lined pan). Bake until crisp. This should take about 20-25 minutes. Set bacon on paper towels to drain and cool completely.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and shortening, stirring until smooth. Brush the coating onto both sides of the bacon strips; sprinkle with optional toppings if desired. Place on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet and place sheet in the refrigerator to set.

Helpful Tips

1. Don't Skimp on Delicious Bacon

Go to the store or local butcher and grab some high quality thick cut bacon. Bacon is the star of this dish and you don't want to get the bargain stuff this time around.

2. Don't Skimp on Delicious Chocolate

I know, we already said not to skimp on the bacon, but with only 3 ingredients, this recipe requires high quality ingredients to taste its very best.

3. Store in the Refrigerator

We recommend storing your chocolate-covered bacon in the refrigerator for safety, but we are guessing you your friends will eat it all before you have a chance to store it! Which leads to our next tip.

4. Make More Than One Batch

This stuff is addictive, delicious, easy and fun. You will be incredibly disappointed if you only make a dozen pieces of chocolate-covered bacon, so consider a bigger batch! We are pretty sure you will find people to take this meat candy off your hands!
