Meet the Experts - Ben Cochran

When you work with New Standard, you are working with experts in barn design and management with a heart for service. Over the past few months we have been featuring each of our team members so that you can get to know the experts behind New Standard. Keep reading to learn more about Ben Cochran!

1. What is your background and education?

I grew up all through the Northwest (Idaho, Utah, California), and we moved to Missouri when I graduated high school. I went to College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, MO and graduated with a double major, K-12 Education and Physical Education. Obviously that didn’t pan out!

2. What led you work at New Standard?

Tim and I go way back, and he asked me to begin working for him part time many years ago. My interest, and excitement for what we do for animal health/welfare, was stoked the moment I got to train pigs for the first time. The rest, they say, is history.

3. What is your role at New Standard?

My technical role is Office Manager.

4. What is your specific area of expertise?

I do a lot of the day to day operations (enter and pay bills, etc), but I also quote all the steel and PanelTIM for projects, as well as set up and monitor all deliveries out/in to our shop and to job sites. Oh, and I am the one who gets to pick out the office Christmas card every year… quite the honor!

5. What is your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of the job is helping design a barn that we can be proud of and makes the farmer successful. I love meeting and developing relationships with our customers, and providing top notch customer service when called upon.

6. What is your least favorite part of the job?

It’s all gravy!  Seriously, one of my biggest frustrations is when everything doesn’t line up perfectly, in timing or design, the way I wanted.

7. How many ribs can you eat in one sitting?

More than I should, I’m what they call “husky.”

8. Favorite cut of pork? Way to eat turkey?

My favorite cut is probably a good smoked and shredded pork shoulder or a nicely seasoned and smoked pork loin. My favorite way to eat turkey is fried or smoked.

9. When you aren't working, what do you enjoy doing?

I love hanging out with my wife, Annie, and our four kids, as well as playing music and watching movies on Netflix.

10. What did you think you would be when you grew up?

Interestingly enough, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I didn’t miss it by much!
