Today we continue our Meet the Experts of New Standard series with a focus on one of the founders, Kees van Ittersum. And in case you didn't already know, Kees is pronounced just like Kase.

Over the next few weeks we'll be featuring the faces of New Standard in several question and answer posts. If you're a current customer, most of these staff faces won't be strangers, but we still think that some of their answers might surprise you!

Q&A with Kees van Ittersum

What is your background and education?

I grew up at a dairy farm in Holland. I have a bachelors degree in both intensive animal husbandry and agricultural management.

What led you form New Standard?

I believed that technology was going to change the industry towards precision farming. I saw the market moving toward high tech solutions to support efficiency and avoid waste. New Standard, hence the name, was (and is) going to focus on that.

What is your role at New Standard?

Designing barns, supporting dealers, and sales.

What is your specific area of expertise?

I have expertise in ventilation design, hog barn design, specific group housing for sows, and several other areas.

What is your favorite part of the job?

I enjoy designing the perfect hog barn, and having customers with outstanding performance because of it.

What is your least favorite part of the job?

Service calls are not my favorite, but they are necessary.

How many ribs can you eat in one sitting?

More than I should...

Favorite cut of pork?

Tenderloin.

When you aren't working, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy reading and driving my 58 corvette (but not at the same time)!

What did you think you would be when you grew up?

I always thought I would be a veterinarian.
